Heart of the Village
Following on from my previous image of Cockington Mill in Devon, this image was taken from Cockington village square looking up the hill towards the entrance to the mansion and it’s grounds.
The building on the right is the Old Granary, now a popular gift shop and a little further up the hill is the Weaver’s Cottage, now a popular old world tea room where traditional Westcountry cream teas are served (YUMMY)
The village square is also the starting point for the popular pony and carriage trips around the ancient village, I will be posting at least one with the ponies in it soon.

WJPhotography
beautiful capture rod…such a pretty place….
whats a cp filter for??
rodsfotos replied
Thanks so much Wendy, a CP filter or to give it it’s full name, a Circular Polarizing filter is an essential bit of equipment for all landscape photographers in bright or sunny conditions, it poralizes reflected light on leaves, grass etc. in the way a polarizing pair of sunglasses do and gives you much better saturated colours, it also helps make a blue sky that much deeper blue, just screw it on the end of your lens and there is a rotating ring on the front of it, when looking through the lens you adjust the amount of desired polarization by rotating it,
Regards, Rod.

Only in the UK!! It’s a wonderful shot Rod!!
I just caught myself lauging out loud, as I imagined a submission to our council for such a build. They’d be running around like chooks with their heads cut off, figuring out who to off-load the request on to for processing! lololol!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Robyn, I smiled at the thought of your local planners being a bit out of their depth with this kind of build, it can work the opposite way over here at times though, sometimes they are so dogged about allowing new materials or building methods simply because they haven’t seen them before,
Regards, Rod.
Pat Yager
Again, Rod, you’ve treated us to a marvelous view of Olde England! It’s so full of atmosphere and the flavor of your wonderful country! – Pat

rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Shirley, it does get a bit crowded at times in the height of Summer, I choose my times to work around the visitors and even then, often have to wait quite a time for people to move out of shot,

I am back to see this one again, Rod. It is wonderful to see how many people have stopped by and left lovely comments. I also wanted to share a song with you that you quite possibly will know. It is my very favorte Celtic song and this is an independent version this fellow recorded for you Tube, called “Both Sides the Tweed” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwdo0vDinoE
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you so much Marjie and for the link to the song on U-Tube, I hadn’t heard of the Bard of Cornwall, but he is a very talented folk singer and his version of this beautiful song is wonderful,
Regards, Rod.

Paul Woloschuk
A wonderful shot Rod.
I believe that I have a old postcard of thie village from around the 1950s with a similar view somewhere…I must root it out!
rodsfotos replied
Thanks so much Paul, it would be interesting to see the old postcard and I’m sure little has changed,
Regards, Rod.
Paul Woloschuk
Here you go Rod…
I don’t know exactly when the postcard was made, but printed on the bacl of the postcard, is instructions to ‘Affix Half Penny Stamp’ !
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you so much Paul, it’s wonderful to see this old B and W postcard of Cockington, judging by the half penny stamp, I’d say it was the fifties at the latest, perhaps older.
Virtually nothing has changed apart from the two small trees in the foreground are now quite a high row of trees, making this view impossible to see now,
I too have quite a number of old postcards from around this area but just can’t put my hand on them for the moment, must try to look them out, again, many thanks,
Regards, Rod.
SandraRos

maxy
WOW! Looks like a fantasy village I could only imagine as a kid! Love the rooftops and shapes of these buildings! What a stunning shot! I love this! Instant fav!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you so much Maxy, this is the same village that I took the Churchyard in Spring image in, most of the ancient cottages have these thatched reed roofs and some date back about 1000 years, yet it is still very much a real village and working community,
Regards, Rod.
