Beatrix Potter's Garden

Beatrix Potter's Garden

I am sure I don’t need to tell you who Beatrix Potter was, her love of the Lake District and nature is World famous.

Though she is known to have lived at Hilltop Farm near Ambleside for much of her life, she owned many properties and farms in the area and on her death she left them to the National Trust so that the natural beauty of the area could be enjoyed for all time. There was over 4000 acres in her estate.

This was one of her houses on Belle Isle on Windermere, in the large grounds she planted every species of tree that was native to the United Kingdom, it looks so beautiful from my viewpoint on a lake leisure steamer.

Rod, this home and setting looks so much like what Beatrix must have loved! I have a cookbook from the Lake District that has her anecdotes as well as great recipes from that area. You’ve indeed captured all the charm that the name “Beatrix Potter” has come to mean to so many. It’s lovely! – Pat

  • rodsfotos replied

Thank-you so much Pat, I am sure the Lake District would still be a popular area to visit without Beatrix Potter’s history there but an awful lot of people go there especially because of the legend she has left, she was a great person in many ways,
    Regards, Rod.

This is quite lovely, Rod. I am sure Beatrix Potter would’ve been proud to see it. Was the shot taken from the shoreline or a boat?

  • rodsfotos replied

I took it from one of the Windermere steamers on a cruise of the lake, I don’t know how this garden would have looked in her lifetime but it has matured so beautifully, she had good vision, many thanks Clark,
    Regards, Rod.

Rod, so wonderful to see this here on Webshots. I love Beatrix Potter and how generous and giving she was to put all of her properties into a trust for the people. I have seen the movie that tells her story and am inspired and in awe of her generosiity. This is a lovely shot and I know that I must put it on the list of places to visit in this lifetime. Meanwhile, a set of these cards is a must too be able to share with others. Warm regards, Marjie

  • rodsfotos replied

She was indeed a wonderful lady Marjie, so many people only associate her with peter rabbit but she certainly left her mark on the Lake District for many other reasons, she was an avid farmer who championed the local herdwick sheep amongst countless other things.
I do hope you make it over here sometime and visit the Lake District, it would be an experience to remember, if you are buying some cards, a huge thank-you in advance,
    Regards, Rod.
