Queen of the English Riviera

Queen of the English Riviera

In Victorian times, the Queen used to regularly visit our bay (Torbay) and enjoyed our mild climate which she compared to the Riviera, since then it has been affectionately named the English Riviera, my home town of Torquay in the bay being her favourite and this has enjoyed the title, Queen of the English Riviera through to modern times.

Easy to appreciate why it’s such a popular holiday resort when you see it as in this view over the harbour that I took this morning October 8, sun shining like a Summer’s day.

Queen of the English Riviera belongs to the following groups:

European Everyday Life (add the place!) and United Kingdom Available for sale as

So beautiful and once again memories come flooding back. As a sales rep I used to have regular weekly calls (summer) and fortnightly (winter) on some of those shops across the harbour. Regards, Peter

  • rodsfotos replied

Thanks so much Peter, as you know, it’s a composition I’ve photographed many times but I was amazed at the extra detail viewed full size with the new camera,

A beautiful capture Rod, yes I believe that Torquay has a very mild climate, even in Wintertime, and if it looked in Victorian times just as charming as it looks today,I think the title of Queen of the English Riviera is more than justified, with or without the visits of the Queen…:) Best regards, Henri.

  • rodsfotos replied

Thank-you very much Henri, I have just returned from my holiday in Cornwall, so please forgive the delay in replying,
    Regards, Rod.
