Bridge of Carr, Scotland
The ancient packhorse Bridge over the dark peaty fast flowing River Dulnain is over 300 years old and is the oldest stone bridge in the Highlands of Scotland, it also gave it’s name to the village of Carrbridge where it is situated.
An early morning image taken on a holiday to the Highlands that I was proud to call my home till I moved down to England after leaving school but a part of me will always remain in this beautiful area.

Bridge of Carr, Scotland belongs to the following groups:

A cracker of an image that has been a favourite of mine for a LONG time. I have seen many photos of this bridge but none come even remotely close to your interpretation of it. So glad you have put it on here. Regards, Peter
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you so much Peter, early morning is always the best time to photograph this old bridge due to the sun’s direction, viewed from the other side you have to include the modern concrete road bridge that runs alongside it,
Regards, Rod.

I’m pretty certain your camera was on the list of cameras that the free Digital Negative Converter would accept. It’s a pretty quick download and brings up a plug in called Camera raw. I tried it but it wont accept my camera despite there being a long list of cameras it WILL accept. Peter
barnsis
Beautiful sharp clear image. the colors are beautiful, very unusual and unique bridge.
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Byron, it is a lot stronger than it appears, I believe it had walls on it for the first 100 years or so till a flood damaged it and it still remains there some 200 years later,
Regards, Rod.

Hi Rod, I think you know that I really like this shot. You’ve really captured the magic of bridges with this one. It amazes me that it’s still standing. They don’t build them like they used to. Don.
rodsfotos replied
Hi Don, thanks so much my friend, it does look a lot weaker than it is though I’d not consider driving over it to find out how strong it really is,

rodsfotos replied
Thanks very much Tom, I lived in Newtonmore till I left school, 20 mins South of Carrbridge, so knew that early morning on a sunny day works with the light on this side of the bridge, as a boy we used to stop at the shop alongside and get Eldorado ice cream, does that ring a bell, lol,
Regards, Rod.
Tom Gomez
We have been up through Carrbridge many times and we always stop to photograph the bridge. I have a couple of shots, but the sky is blown out in both, so I’m not particularly proud of them.
We holidayed in Carrbridge for a week several years ago, we had a great time.

wonderful image rod!!! the color of the water is fabulous, this dark blue!!! well done dear!!!

Thank-you very much again Chen, the darkness of the water is due to the peat in the soil in the area, most of these Scottish Highland rivers are much the same colour,
Regards, Rod.

This is a beautiful capture Rod. I see why it was featured. The angle you took it from with the flowers and trees showing through on the other side is so pretty…and just gorgeous set against the deep blue sky. The highlands must be a great place to live. Maybe you will get back there again one day….and stay. Wonderful composition!
rodsfotos replied
Thank-you very much Ginny, I always enjoy visits back to the Highlands of Scotland and wish I could return more often, who knows what the future holds but I would certainly enjoy living there again,
Regards, Rod.
Jordan Busson
Stunning photo. I love the simplicity of the composition, the angle of the bridge and the way the trees frame it. The lighting is great, particularly the play of light and shade on the bridge. The colours are fantastic, and the yellow flowers add a bit of colour to the photo, acting as a simple visual accent, and completing the shot. Beautiful.

Thank-you so much for the wonderful well thought out crytique, it is much appreciated and most helpful to get good constructive feedback like this,
