Lost Life

FEATURED OCT 2009 JAZZED UP ART

Image shot in my home away from home, Old Town Dubrovnik, where I love to watch the pigeons. This one struck me with his despondent mood. This shot always reminded me of Art Pepper’s powerful song.

I was looking tonight for Lost Life and found this video instead. One of the best pieces of music I have ever felt, takes over at around two and a half minutes…the lead in is an intriguing insight into the prison experiences of Art Pepper.

The rosette window belongs to the church of St.Saviour, built between 1520-1528, and depicted in my other work below Light in the Darkness

Excellent image. Your shot always remind you of that powerful song…... but your shot remind me on one scene from Blade Runner movie. Moment when one replicant die. If you haven’t seen that movie watch that masterpiece. You would like that anthology movie.

  • rodeorose replied

Long time back that one dear Nedim!! I will look at it once more now. Many thanks for your great comments here :))

What a wonderful shot! Looks like this bird knows he is in the presence of God and is bowing his head in prayer.

  • rodeorose replied

That’s a great interpretation Walela! Thanks so much for sharing that here my friend.

Love this! The mood of the foreground, pigeon & masony, reflect the mood of the title, he’s lost and desolate; contrast that to the mood and light of the background which seem to represent his salvation.
    Congratulations on an excellent capture:)

  • rodeorose replied

You make the best comments dear Aileen- I do appreciate the way you take on a work and think about it. Much love xx

Wonderful DoF and the background is so interesting, yet doesn’t detract from the main subjuct. Very well done Rosie.

  • rodeorose replied

Davo I always appreciate your responses dear friend :)) That’s the same window you liked on the earlier church shot depicted here in the right column.

The composition, timing and DOF of this shot has me doing something I would never have thought possible… ...adding a photograph of a ‘rat of the air’ into my faves! Awesome image RR! Thanks.

  • rodeorose replied

James- I am laughing at this wholeheartedly my friend :0 I love to find the beauty in the commonplace, so this is one HEC of a compliment I accept from a person of your professional standards!!! I happen to love pigeons and seagulls- but notice they don’t get a great rap in general..Spoeaking of sky rats, but not wishing to self-promote too much, other Bubblers of your caliber had a similar reaction with this shot- click here
Nice to have met you here this week!

  • James Sallie

    James Sallie

    Hey there RR,
Professional standards? Moi? Surely you have me confused with someone else!
You need no self promotion, your work does it all! I saw the seagull nicking the prawn shot – both good captures! It inspired me to get a simliar image from my portfolio and onto my morphing tablet. Something for the weekend unless I am distracted! Likewise RR, nice to have met and I really appreciate your kind words.

  • rodeorose replied

I’ll keep an eye out for your sky-rat then ;)

This particular song and video are among my very favorite pieces of music and music history. Thanks a million for the feature, and apologies if I hadn’t said that earlier …

This has beeen so beautifully done and the combination of good technical qualities with touching aesthetics has rendered most moving imagery.

You’ve elevated the lowly pigeon to heavenly status with this one. The inversion of the beauty and elegance of the rose window to the bird work marvelously.

You know Phil, your incredible comment means so much! I just love pigeons..glad you enjoyed this one!
