When you meet with the young men in early Spring
You court them in song and rhyme
They answer with words and a clover ring
But if you examine the goods they bring
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
And the plentiful waste of time.

Oh, it’s a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn’t got time for the waiting game.

Many many wonderful versions exist of this wistful old standard that to me seemed appropriate for this shot. My particular favorites are by Art Pepper(instrumental), and Patricia Kaas.

Pictured is Dubrovnik Old Town which has been listed by UNESCO since 1979 as a World Heritage site.

Oh Rosie – you have absolutely no idea how much I adore this song and – this image which has all of the things that move me the most – water, sailing ships, history and beautiful rich tones of color. In fact, just thinking of this song, hearing it play in my head because it is so meaningful to me, has brought me to tears.

Lianne we seem to be kindred spirits then. September Song haunts my reveries, and often brings a tear with its wondrous sentimentality. ( I haven’t heard a version I didn’t like)

absolutely completely extraordinary image!!!! I was there in ‘05 … got all the typical tourist shots … but no tall ships!!!!! WOW!!!! Seriously, seriously … magnificent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Lois- this elegant sailing ship makes for a superb atmosphere whenever it comes through. There are a few other reproduction sailing ships that have regular runs, but this one is my favorite.
I still remember my excitement when I spotted this out the window. I had been doing some housework with my sister-in-law, and just looked out the window about 300meters from the port, and I started jumping up and down-and snapping away while there was still light left. It was almost nine p.m. I’ve been trying to dig up the shot that shows this from the actual window, (before I got out onto the terrace from where this shot was taken) because that gives a sense of living there, which is a nice touch.
So this was hand-held camera (jumping up and down, heart jumping for glee), and the last of the evening sun, hence the blurred painting-like effect, as Blessedphoto has remarked below.

Golly. I never even saw nor heard that version before. You just sent me over to Youtube for a heart-chakra transplant…any idea which album this might be on? ( there are about 30 of her albums in our collection, and this one is not there.a previous Rottie we had used to request Sarah, I’m not kidding…)

Davo, it was one of those moments when a girl just gets lucky :)) I must post the shot of my first glimpse- through the window…we were cleaning up and it gave me a great excuse to run out the door with camera in hand!!
