She Sews the Summer Gone.
Dubrovnik Old Town has been listed since 1979 as Unesco World Heritage site(Best viewed in large format)
The solitary figure of the sewing lady, familiar to all who have visited Dubrovnik Old Town in the past decade at least. She sits, constant, at this very spot, year long, at the steps to the Dominican Monastery. In traditional dress, and sewing traditional patterns. She lays out her samplers tenderly on the stone steps to display her work. But for whom? Summer’s gone and the stones sigh cold breaths of relief, and the whole town rests, like the ebb tide. But the Sewer sews, the Summer gone.
The Dominican Monastery in Dubrovnik was first established in 1225, though the original building completed only in the 14th Century, to be largely destroyed in the earthquake of 1667. The position chosen by the Domenicans for their monastery was one of the most sensitive defence point of the city, its immense structure becoming incorporated into the very fortress Walls of the Old Town. The church is one of the largest examples of Gothic buildings on the Dalmatian Coast, and includes a cloisters, a pentagonal apse, and a number of Gothic arches connecting to it. The outer walls shown in this section are typical of the unadorned tall exterior.
Considerable repairs have been undertaken on the structure initially following the earthquake of 1667, and more recently the damage during the Balkan War in the 1990’s.

Beautifully done Rosie! And when viewed large, it’s a more intense viewing experience. That the sewer is not swallowed up by the buildings is a testament to your compositional skill. A fascinating photo.

I love this image. Not just the perspective, but the fade out of textures in the stone/brick as my eye leads me down to the sole person and the street below. Really good work, my friend xo

Stone work is so very interesting to me at any time. But when displayed as you have here with a top notch PoV and a wonderfull bit of human softness to offset it’s harsh feel. I am just drawn to it. Well done!
