Sisters
They were sisters. The oldest was shorter and smarter. The younger of the two was taller and shaped like her father, thin and wiry. Only 16 months separted the two…but they could never quite get along. She loved her sister and would do anything for her but deep down she really didn’t like her very much and she would smile inside when she failed.

Dear Rochelle
there are many people who have the capacity to draw and paint, but I do not think they are necessarily what I would call artists. Again there is a great deal of sentimentality around art.
You have painted something particular here, an expression of the ambiguity and paradox of the feelings between two sisters, a relationship possibly created in a sense with their relationship to father,
I don’t know much about the world or language of art but I think this is a masterpiece. I guess I think it should be hanging in a posh gallery in New York or somewhere like that.
I really like your art work, I’m almost jealous!?
best wishes
Isabel.

Thanks, Isabel!

Hi Rochele, I just thought I would stop by and see what’s new. Have you had this on for long. I just love the detail of all your work. This one is so lovely. Your Shadows really bring a great deal of depth and interest to the piece. The dresses are my favorite part. Wonderful patterns. Beautiful work!!! I hope that 2009 is treating you well.
Rochele Royster replied
Hi Elizabeth, I loved doing the dresses on this painting! Thanks for checkin in! 2009 has been great. I’m trying to commit myself to doing more art…but its hard with a two year old ;) but i’m staying focused. I’m glad you liked this painting.

Really fantastic! You have captured such spirit, yet in a very artistic stylized way. Highly emotional.

Thanks Alice for your comment! I love your work!!

hi rochele… i see i’ve been here before… i loved your beautiful painting before, and now i’ve read the short introduction, i love it even more… is it a story you’re illustrating? i can totally see the characters and identify with the words you’ve written… : )
Rochele Royster replied
this is from an old photograph that attracted my attention. I’ve changed it quite a bit…and while i was painting it, this story surfaced in my head. the image started to create its own story…

This has a wonderful curiosity about it. It’s almost as if both of them have arrived somewhere they both feel the same about… but their emotional distance from each other affected the looks on their faces. The expressiveness of this piece is great.
Rochele Royster replied
Wow! thanks for that comment. I like the way you really examine art and develop a story. I’m glad you like this.
