This is a picture i took of this Juvenile Gannet floating around in the Two Rocks Marina,Western Australia, i think it may have been blown in with the big storms we have had.
Taken with an Olympus SP-565-UZ on auto setting and zoomed in as far as i could.

Given your location ,it’s probably an Australasian Gannet…this is a sub adult bird that hasn’t achieved final plumage..see here It’s very similar to our Northern Gannet..See here for details og Gannets and closely related Boobies (bet you’re sorry you asked now..lol)

  • Thank you so much Jamie, i am so glad you enjoyed him, and you have been a great help.

Ah, so Jamie beat us to it ! I always work from page one up so quite often the first picture is the last I see !?
But then, I always have been backward…..lol ! Another good capture of this youngster Jude.

  • Thanks a million Roy, and i think Jamie is right about him been a Juvenile Gannet, and a big one at that. He seems to have made himself at home in the Two Rocks Marina, much to my delight.

    Cheers Jude

I’m same as Roy in that I work in the opposite direction from the way the pics have been posted. But even had I seen this one first I doubt I would have known what it was. All I DO know is that it’s a great photo!

  • Thanks a million Peter, every one seems to think he is a juvenile Gannet, and i think the could be right.
He seems to have made himself at home in the Marna, much to my delight, he was there this morning as well.

    Cheers Jude x
