Comfort on the street. Rio, Brazil by

This photo was taken in a street just behind Ipanema Beach, Rio. I do not spend my holiday time looking for these type of shots, but i am a social planner so my gaze is always seeing social issues in community settings. I was struck by the setting – this man is on the street, his possessions are few, he has probably come in from the country looking for work. Brazil is largely a catholic country, so such iconic pictures give comfort.

I am aware that there are deep christian views held by some members of redbubble – my apologies in advance if this photo offends.

I don’t see how this could offend. I think the scene you have captured, Rochelle, hits the nail right on the head. A social issue, certainly; Well captured. A religious statement, most definately.
To me, this scene says it all. Well done Rochelle.

  • hi Imagematrix – thankyou for the comment. it does make a powerful statement on a major social issue – not only in Brazil but all countries. I woudl not think that this shoud offend, but there are some that are deeply religious and so i thought that – just in case! – cheers rochelle

Really puts in perspective the amount of faith that exists within the church here. A powerful social observation indeed. Well done

  • thankyou ein22 – yes i am often concerned as to the power of religion. I am cool about people having their faith and respect all beliefs – but it is sometimes how that get acted out that worries me.

Rochelle this is a very powerful image, just shows how hope keeps us going. without it our wheels fall of.The human spirit is an amazing thing. Photography wise this is a superb shot. I hope he gets the lucky break he needs, i am confident that he will. Powerful thought provoking shot Rochelle.

  • hi Danzo – yes i am hoping that he and many like him get the community support he needs to make a life other than this one. I am holding my breath though with the state of our global politics
