i love the bustling activity behind the boy, adds so much to the moment and environment. Looks like this boy takes pride in selling papers by his smile and buttoned up shirt.
thanks Marnie – yes he was reallylovely to talk to and is well presented as he would be a boy with very little financial resources. in fact he probably does not go to school. this is a very busy railway station.
thanks Judy – the wires – yes they are a little distracting I agree – but railway stations in india are very very very busy places and often you are trying to walk through people/families that are taking space camped on the floors of the station – so the wires were to set some space for walking through and also there seemed to be a lot of ‘us’ westerners on this side of the ‘wires’ – note the papers he is selling is in english not hindi – so he is on the western side targetting ‘us’ – a smart boy – we pay more money for the papers
thankyou Ken – he is a real cutie – i really love the kids in these places – while they have nothing they have a sense of life. engaging with them through the photography is so much fun
no worries Judy – i had not taken your comment in a wrong way at all – so no need for apologies. when i first thought about putting up the photo i contemplated whether it was good enough because i found the wires a real distraction. it is a problem i keep working with when i do street photography – often i do not spend that minute in looking at the surroundings – just focussing on the immediate – so need to me more careful when taking such photos. this is not a digital image but one from my film camera – so when i get home and look at them – it is often too late for corrections. but i like this young boy and he and i had a really lovely connection – so the emotional response to the photo won me over deciding to put it on redbubble.
don’t worry – this is all about learning the art and craft of photography – which is great.
cheers rochelle
