On top of our 5 sons and daughter, we have adopted many more sons, whom our boys brought home over the years. This is Thomas, the newest addition to our family. Brian and Jimmy took him up camping a couple of weeks ago. Thomas had done the traditional campground vacation, but this was his first time staying out in the woods. Thomas wasn’t happy about the “no bathrooms” part of the trip. He really didn’t want to get this close to nature.
Brian and Jimmy’s idea of a fun camping trip is to drive as far as the road will take them and then hike a few miles straight up, without a trail. Naturally, this means there won’t be bathrooms in their chosen spot.
A person’s first trip into nature’s outhouse can be daunting. I remember flat out refusing to use it until I realized that my husband wasn’t going to drive me 30 miles into town to find a bathroom.
Brian snuck up on Thomas to get this photo, fortunately after the experience was over. The thing I love about this shot is that Thomas has such an expressive face and his emotions are so transparent.
I originally planned on uploading this to Facebook only, until the Vibration in Art & Verse group opened the Portraits, Candid or Otherwise, That Tell a Story challenge.
