This was taken by my daughter-in-law, Colleen Stubbert Emerson, at the beach in La Jolla, California (USA). The ocean is the place where Colleen’s heart belongs. I know how hard it is for her to be landlocked in Montana, having grown up in the same place and visited the same beaches. No matter where we live, our souls will always cry out for the ocean.

On a lighter note, those sea birds seem to be having a great time wading in the water. I’m entering this in the Oh, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside challenge in the Caption Fun group.

Photo taken January 28, 2007, by Colleen Stubbert Emerson, with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera.

I love the shot. Awesome power in the waves, and great contrast between surf and sand. The shot has movement and a 3 dimensional feel to it.

Great capture. I can hear those waves crashing on to the rocks, and the sound of the seagulls.

Like me and mountains. I understand completely. It’s easier to find mountains than beaches wherever you move though. Great capture.

  • Thanks, Bunny! My ideal is ocean and mountains, one of the reasons I love Humboldt County in Northern California and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.

I like the rich deep colours, and the power of the waves. I can just smell the sea air and hear the crashing of the distant wave hitting the rock.
