I took this out the window of Shaun’s car as we were traveling over Snoqualmie Pass on our way to Seattle, Washington (USA) last Fall. The closest town is Cle Elum, to the west. I was struck by the beauty of the mountains and the forest surrounding this lonely ranch. Snoqualmie Pass cuts through the Cascade Range.

In spite of being in the middle of nowhere, it looks like the owners have all the modern conveniences, if you overlook the small outhouse in front.

I’m entering this in the Lonely Ranch Houses challenge in The Wild West Show group.

Photo taken in October, 2010 with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera. Photo adjustments were made in Photoshop CS. I added a bicolor filter to bring out the contrast between the autumn colors and the blues of the sky and mountains.

    Awesome :)))

  • Thanks, Elaine! I was really surprised at how little motion blur there was. It’s really difficult to take a picture going over the pass because of all the trees along the interstate.

Lovely on the run shot Kathleen. Usually I hate seeing power lines in photos but they seem to accentuate the theme of this image, following the line of trees, mountains and clouds overhead. Good luck in the challenge. Tony:)

  • Thanks, Tony! I hate power lines too and try to edit them out when I can’t avoid getting them in the image. These lines are such a contrast to the scene, though, especially with not other buildings around for miles.

    Absolutely lovely capture hun.

  • Thanks, Jackie! It’s nice to hear from you. Our phone went out, day before yesterday, and I haven’t had any way to contact CenturyLink to complain. I walked to the store yesterday to call Jimmy and left a voice mail, asking him to make the call for me. I finally sent them an email, but I feel stranded for now.
