I went for a walk this last weekend and went wild, taking photos of all the wildflowers that seemed to bloom overnight. I found these sunflowers in the field behind the Veteran’s Home in Columbia Falls, Montana (USA).

Original photo taken in June, 2011 with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera. Photomanipulation was done in Photoshop CS. I started with the Topaz Clean filter, using the Stylized setting to give the photo an impressionistic look. I followed up using the Redfield Plasteroid filter for texturing and the Redfield Sketchmaster filter, layered over the original to give it more of a painted look. I finished off by selecting the dark yellows and blues in the image, jumping to a new layer and adding some beveled layer effects to give it the look of extra layers of paint.

The original, uncropped and unedited, is below:

very lovely Kathleen! I love sunflowers! thanks for sharing! (big smile)

  • Thank you! I love sunflowers too, the wild ones and the domestic. They are so bright and varied in their colors and forms. I wish I had a bigger garden (ours is smaller than our bathroom) so I could fill it with these flowers.

Wonderful work. Thanks so much for describing your post-processing. Very helpful.

  • Thanks, Rene! It helps me to remember what I did too. If I didn’t write it down somewhere I’d never be able to repeat it.
