We all rage against the unfairness of the storms in our lives, but need to remember that life in the eye of the storm can be beautiful and exhilirating. If we never pass through the outer edge of the storm, we will never find the peace at its center.

When things seem to be at their worst, remember the phrase from the Bible, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10), because finding that peace in the midst of the storm will also bring the knowledge of His presence. The verse in my Spanish Bible is a bit different:

“Estad quietos, y conoced que yo soy Dios…” (Salmo 46.10; La Reina Valeria)

Basically, it can be translated, “Be quiet, and know that I am God”. When we’re so busy complaining about how unfair life has been and repeating the age old mantra, “Why me?”, we cannot hear that still small voice assuring us that all will be well.

[EDIT: May 25]

My husband and I watched a video online that was recorded by somebody who went through the tornado in Joplin on Sunday. There were around 17 people who were trapped in a gas station when the tornado struck. The people had piled up several cases of beer and made a small corridor about 24 feet by 6 feet and they lay on the floor. Everything was dark in the video but you could hear the roar of the tornado and the pounding of hailstones. You could also hear things breaking and being hurled around. Some people were screaming and children were crying. Others were calmly assurance the people with them that everything would be alright. One woman was loudly praying and praising God. I can only hope that I would have the presence of mind to pray and help others in a situation like that.

When the tornado had passed, the people emerged to find out that everything was flattened except for that small area where they had made a shelter. The neighborhood around them was gone and the cars in the parking lot were crushed. The person who took the video said his car had disappeared. He went back into the gas station and showed where the ceiling had collapsed everywhere and the shelves had fallen over, except for that one small haven.

Wonderful! Oh yes! Been in that eye lately and came through it too!

  • Thank you! I have been too and came through in one piece. It helps to remember the words, “This too shall pass”.

I love the imagery and your write especially…

This is the BEST advice to give someone.
    Peace to you always
