Shaun was feeling impatient with tourists when he designed this. We had witnessed a throng of them, carrying cameras and videorecorders, chase a mother black bear with a tiny cub in Glacier National Park. We tried very loudly to tell them that wasn’t a good idea, but nobody would listen to us. We reported the incident to the Park Service rangers, who said, “They’re doing it again”. The rangers are constantly having to run people away from the bears.

Almost every year, somebody gets a black or grizzly bear killed by doing something stupid. Bears may be cute, but they are NOT cuddly! When a person provokes a bear into attacking, the bear usually ends up being destroyed. When it’s a sow with a young cub, two lives are wasted.

I finally forced myself through my fear of Tee design so I could make some Christmas and birthday presents to order for the family. I’m having trouble with the colors in this. It looks a lot drearier than the file I uploaded and I’m not sure how to adjust for that.

TOP TEN WINNER in the Politically Incorrect T-Shirt Challenge in the C.O.R.E. group.

Serious but also seriously funny! Tourists can be stupid, and this is a great way to deal with them. I’m afraid I can’t help with the colours.

  • Thanks anyway. I found the tutorial here and realized that I had to work the colors in CMYK and change it back to RGB to upload it. I’ve been doing art for the internet for so long that I forgot that printers don’t speak the same color language.

Oh, that’s wonderful Kathleen. A great design for a tee, and I’m glad that you overcame your fear. :)

Excellent statement on something that has always bothered me. I call it the “Disney-fication of nature”. Disney made everything cute and cuddly, to the detriment of many animals and some people. Well done!

  • You’re right! People have forgotten that this is the same place where “Night of the Grizzlies” took place. I think they really think they’re dealing with Yogi and Boo Boo, instead of 300 – 600 pounds of fangs and claws. It seems that there is a bear attack up here at least once a year. A few years ago, a grizzly attacked a bike rider, next to the highway by our home. I won’t go anywhere in Glacier Park without some bear spray. I prefer to watch bears from a long way away, with binoculars.
