My daughter-in-law, Ann, taking pictures at the edge of a cliff overlooking the Columbia River across from Vantage, Washington. Shaun gave her his Nikon P80 camera when he upgraded to the P90, and he has been teaching her how to use it.

The Columbia River was carved out of this volcanic rock when the icedam that was holding Glacial Lake Missoula broke and flooded western Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington. The cliff across the river is part of the Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park.

Taken by Shaun Emerson in September, 2010, with a Nikon CoolPix P90 camera.

TOP TEN WINNER in the Extreme Example of Erosion challenge hosted by the VOLCANOES, Earth’s Geology & Atmosphere group.

Okay since I am scared of heights I am not even comfortable looking at this one. It spells height in every way to me. But it is so beautiful!!Information is also great!!

  • Thank you! I’m the same way about heights. I can’t even climb the first rung of a ladder without getting vertigo and it makes me sick to watch my sons when they do it. I don’t mind taking photos from the ground looking up, but I leave the other kind to my kids.
