November, 2010 – TOP TEN WINNER in the Bright and Colourful Facades challenge, hosted by the Unique Buildings of the World group.

This is an old building on Water Street in Port Townsend, Washington (USA). Water Street is the main street that goes through downtown. This street is filled with wonderful shops and is a tourist attraction for people in the Seattle area. It can be reached by ferry or a long drive around Puget Sound.

This entire downtown area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings date back to the 1880’s. Being an artist community, many of these old buildings and homes have been carefully restored, which has made Port Townsend into a well known tourist stop. You can sign up for guided tours of this historic district, starting in the Spring and going through the Summer season.

This Victorian architecture is one of the things that I love the most about Port Townsend. The gingerbread style trim gives Victorian buildings their unique look. This building sits right by the harbor, about a block down from the ferry terminal. I’m entering this photo in the Bright and Colorful Facades challenge in the Unique Buildings of the World Group.

I have a special love of Victorian architecture, so unique and ornate. I also love the bold colours of this building. That community sounds wonderful. great capture. :)

  • Thanks! I really miss Port Townsend! If I wasn’t in love with a man who loves Montana, I’d move back there in a heartbeat.
