10/2/10 – Featured in THE WORLD AS WE SEE IT Group.

This was taken while we were riding the ferry across Puget Sound from Kingston to Edmonds, Washington (USA). I loved the endless sky here. In Montana, our skyscapes are blocked by mountains on every side.

Seattle has several ferries connecting it and its suburbs with the Olympic Peninsula. Without these ferries, it would take a very long drive, south through Tacoma, to travel around the sound to Seattle. Port Townsend, where my family lives, was cut off for several months until they had a new ferry to replace the outdated one. If you keep your eyes on the lookout, you may see a whale in the waters. There is one ferry service that guarantees that you will spot a whale or they will let you keep coming back for free until you do.

Photo taken in September, 2010 with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera. I discovered a new setting on my camera and was experimenting with it.

So many diferent shapes in this sky to capture… nice one…

  • Thanks, George! I was amazed at how endless the sky was there. I can’t get many good skyscapes around home because what the tract homes don’t block the mountains do. They may call Montana “Big Sky Country”, but I think you have to be in the eastern part of the state, where it’s flat, to appreciate it.

I love those clouds in this. Beautiful.

  • Thank you, Bunny! I’ve been trying to find interesting cloudscapes without the sunset colors. I found that it’s a lot harder to photograph skies like this than it is sunsets and sunrises.

wonderful capture of these beautiful clouds in Seattle!!

  • Thank you! This was the sky we had when we were on our way home. It was sunny there for a week until we got there. It drizzled and rained the entire time we were there. I have several photos with raindrops over my camera lens. Then, as we were heading home, it started to clear up, as you can see.

    Fabulous sky

  • Thank you! It finally showed some blue sky as we were leaving. I think I brought the rain with me.

Wow, what a sky Kathleen!!! Brilliant photography!! Great to see you experimenting with your camera!! :))) Was the water rough?

  • Thank you, Vicki! The water was smooth and beautiful. Puget Sound is usually pretty calm. I get seasick very easily and I don’t remember ever having trouble with it on the ferries.
