This was taken from a car, as we were driving north toward Polson, Montana (USA), which is located at the southern end of Flathead Lake. The Mission Mountains were named after the famous mission in St. Ignatius, founded by Father Pierre-Jean De Smet on the Flathead Salish Reservation.
The Mission Mountains are among the most beautiful mountain ranges on earth. They are located southeast of Flathead Lake and lie mainly in Lake and Missoula counties. Their highest point is 9,900 feet above sea level.
