This was taken on Jimmy’s trip back from Tennessee this last spring. My one request for photographs was the Gateway Arch, in St. Louis, Missouri (USA). I am not allowed to do any photo adjustments on Jimmy’s work. What you see is as it came out of the camera.

The Gateway Arch is located at the edge of the Mississippi River. At the top of the arch is an observation deck, where visitors can look across the river to the Cahokia Mounds of southern Illinois.

Photo taken by James Emerson, Roca Mia Design, in March 2010, with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera. No use of any kind permitted without written permission from the photographer.

Jimmy would like to thank all of you for your kind words of encouragement and for adding this to your favorites. As a new photographer he is really blessed that you like it.

“The Gateway Arch, also known as the Gateway to the West, is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri. Built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States, it has become the city’s iconic image. It was designed by architect Eero Saarinen and structural engineer Hannskarl Bandel in 1947. It is 630 feet (192 m) wide at its base and stands 630 feet (192 m) tall, making it the tallest monument in the United States, Construction started on February 12, 1963, and ended on October 28, 1965. It is the tallest habitable structure in Missouri. The monument opened to the public on July 10, 1967.”

Oh VERY nice! Wonderful, tall perspective and very clean and modern-looking!

  • Thanks, Debi! This is my favorite from his trip. Jimmy has a wonderful and different way of looking at things. While Shaun and I tend to take photos that we would like to see on a postcard, Jimmy likes things that are more unusual.

Well it came out of the camera in magnificant shape. It is so neat some day I will see it!

  • Thank you! I hope that I can see it someday too. I didn’t realize that St. Louis was such a beautiful city until I looked through Jimmy’s photos.

I went up in the Arch as a teenager – never again!!! I was scared to death LOL

  • Thank you, Gina! I don’t blame you for being scared. I get dizzy just trying to climb up the first rung of a ladder.
