This is from the first group of photos I took, as we headed off on our trip to Washington. I had to take the picture out of the car window. We were driving through construction and there was no place to stop.

I have never taken photos before, while riding in a car. Taking photos from a car on a bumpy road is like reaching into a grab bag. You have to try several times before you get something you like. It’s like jumping up and down and waving the hand that is holding the camera. Then, there are the obstacles, like signs, other vehicles and berms. If you try to take the time to focus, something appears in the frame when you click the button. I was thankful for the large viewscreen, that allowed me to hold the camera away from my face. Ann was taking pictures by holding her camera out the window, above the car, and turning it to face towards the driver’s side.

If you look in the lower left of the photo, you can see a small bridge leading to an unpaved road that travels across the farmland.

I had to use HDR processing on this because of the slight motion blur. The photo was taken with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera, on the Flathead Salish Reservation in northwestern Montana (USA). This is a shortcut that the locals use to avoid the longer trip, south to Missoula, to get to I90. If you turn west at Elmo, which is on Flathead Lake, and head down through St. Regis, you can shave several miles off the trip.

500 views, as of 6/17/11.
