Conrad Mansion 2 by rocamiadesign

The historic Conrad Mansion in Kalispell, Montana (USA). It was built by the millionaire, Charles Conrad, in the late 1800’s and donated by his daughter to the city of Kalispell, which now runs it as a museum. Tours are available in the summer season. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens, of which I hope to get some good photos in the future.

The first room you see upon entering is the two story high livingroom. Charles Conrad used to have a giant Christmas tree placed there and would invite children from disadvantaged families there for Christmas Eve for a holiday dinner. They would then each have a present waiting, under the tree, to be opened.

Considering the “barons” of his day, Charles Conrad was a generous man. His grounds, which used to hold his bison herd, became what is now Kalispell’s Woodland Park.

I’m entering this in the Surrounded by Green Grass challenge in the Buildings of the World group.

My dad has a story about being in his late teens or early 20s and he and the friend and some other guys took the Conrad family’s Pierce Arrow (which they were not supposed to touch) and took turns driving it. The guys who weren’t driving were sitting in the back mixing and drinking martinis!"

This is really beautiful! I love the dappled light through the trees!

  • Thank you, Robin! That’s what drew me to this scene. There were better angles, to capture the house, but they didn’t have the same lighting.
