Road to Recovery

Artist's Description

This was taken at Great Northern Flats, on the North Fork of the Flathead River, across the river from Glacier National Park. It’s a favorite camping spot for the river rafters. Unfortunately, the huge Robert Fire started in the Canyon Creek drainage, which empties out around a mile south of here. The Robert Fire was started by careless campers.

Shaun and one of my other sons reported seeing the fire about to jump the river. Unfortunately, firefighters were not dispatched to stop it in time. What started as a small fire jumped the river and destroyed thousands of acres in Glacier Park.

This was taken a year or two after the fire. The trees are still blackened, but you can see that the ground plants are starting to recover. Nature is more resilient than man is.

We’re entering this in the Dying Nature challenge, in the Everything Ends group.
