This is Cinder, our 5 month old female Bombay kitten. Cinder is the daughter of a stray who was dumped in front of out apartment building. Our neighbor fed the stray scraps, but moved away a few months later, so we started feeding her cat food, along with all the other strays in the area who discovered her dish. Living outside didn’t provide effective birth control for the cat. She was getting big by the time winter struck so my husband and I snuck her inside. We managed to find a good home for Cinder and her mother, but still have two of her brothers, who adopted us.

This is a collaboration with my youngest son, James Emerson. He took the original photograph. I cropped, adjusted levels and straightened it. I also cloned out a white animal hair that she had across her nose.

I’m uploading this photo for the “Lovely Cat Portraits” contest, hosted by the Mood & Ambience group.

Photo taken by James Emerson, with a Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS camera.

Gorgeous capture and postwork. What a beautiful cat.

  • Thanks Bunny! We like Bombays. They are a bit shy, but very loyal once they get to know you.

wow, great shot! Black cats have a special mysterious look.

  • Thanks! They do have that look. That’s probably why so many people are superstitious of them.
