12/14/10 – Featured in THE WORLD AS WE SEE IT Group.
This photo was taken last April 1 (2009), in Columbia Falls, Montana (USA) with a Kodak CoolPix P80 camera. We were at a tiny, but beautiful, park at the edge of the Flathead River, that has always been a favorite resting place for my husband and me. The river runs by the eastern edge of the town and floods the homes that are built on the flats in a high water year.
The mountains are the western slopes of the Rockies, bordering the Great Bear Wilderness and, further south, the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
I added the Orton effect by duplicating the photograph, adding a Gaussian blur of 5 and blending with either Overlay or Soft Lighting. Either one will work, but produce a different look. I then lowered the opacity to around 30 percent.
This was my first outing with a camera, and my son, Shaun, took me to the Flathead River, outside of Columbia Falls, Montana, to teach me how to take pictures. My only previous experience with a camera was in the 1970’s, where I used a Kodac Instamatic to take continuity photos, as a wardrobe woman for Tandem/T.A.T. Productions. Those oldies were idiot proof.
