Made in Ultra Fractal 5. As this Montana winter wears on, I’ve tried to recapture the magic of the first time I lived through a cold winter. I grew up in Hollywood and only saw the snow on short trips to Big Bear.
I remember that my father would bundle us up in several layers of clothing, since we didn’t have much need for winter wear. We would put a couple socks on each hand. Since we didn’t have snow sleds, we’d bring cardboard boxes with us to slide down hills of snow. After about ten minutes, my sock-covered hands would be wet, the thrill of the snow had worn off, and I’d retreat to the relative warmth of the car. Most cars in Southern California came with air conditioners instead of heaters, so I’d sit in cold misery until my siblings also tired of the cold. Those ten minutes of box sledding were heaven to me though!
