Bringing the tip of the index (Jupiter) finger to the middle of the thumb (Divinity), with the Mercury, Sun, and Saturn fingers together and extended, this mudra assists the yogi in expressing his own individuality. With the thumb extended beyond the index finger, this mudra reminds the yogi that his goal is not total destruction of the ego, but rather to use the ego to act in accordance with the Divine.

The Gnana Mudra can be performed with the hands (palms up) on the knees, or with the right hand held (palm out) up and against the body, or with the right hand (palm up) over the heart chakra.

Robyn Scafone is the co-founder of Infinite Path Martial Arts, located in Traverse City, MI. Established in 2002.
