Alice Through The Opera Glass(best if viewed large) by

(mixed media on Canson Watercolor paper)

We always tend to picture the young Heroine of “Alice In Wonderland” & it’s sequel “Alice Through The Looking-Glass” as forever a young girl, However, there,of course, really was an Alice,on whom Lewis Carroll(or Charles Dodgson) based the main character on. He even wanted to marry her when she came of age,but her parents turned down his proposal because, as a Mathematics Professor at Oxford University, they thought he couldn’t provide for her decently(it wasn’t because of the pictures that he took of her as a child;in Victorian time, pictures of scantily clad children were generally considered “Art” w/ no ulterior motives.) The real Alice grew to be a lovely young woman(as you can see from the picture in this collage) & lived well into old age, though to us,she always the little girl who fell down a Rabbit Hole & had amazing adventures as a result. How did the actual Alice feel about being the Muse of these classic books? In this collage,I picture her, older, watching herself on stage,in a stage version(or “Opera” as she holding an Opera Glass.) looking upon her fictional adventures. I purposely made her in color, while her alter ego, (in the famous John Tenniel illustrations) are left in their original B&W since thats how people usually picture her( Besides the Disney Version,of course. ).

  • Thanks so Much,Anna! I really didn’t think this work would get much attention, let alone Featured; There were still some things I wanted to add to it but I ran out of room so I just put it up & let the public decide whether it was good or not.Well, I’m glad I went w/my instincts;-)!
