(mixed media on card)I’ve always been intrigued with the real-life “Teen Queen” who grew up to be a "symbol’ of all that was wrong w/French Royalty though she really wasn’t & didn’t even say that infamous quote.
marie antoinette royalty france
Thanks so much,Carol:-)!
beautiful and i always thought it was a weird thing to say anyway lol
It has to do w/the fact that there was a bread shortage around that time & Royalty & the Aristocracy were using flour to powder their wigs. Some one said that flour could be used to make bread,& MA said,“Let them eat cake(instead)” Actually, another royal said it about hundred years before but the propaganda was so bad against MA that they attributed the remark to her. Well, that’s your “history lesson” for today-lol. Thanks for your lovely comment!
he he did know most of it but u still need flour to make cake, so thats why i thought it was weird lol i kind of like her too like most strong women specially from those early days when it was not so easy , they paved the way for us i guess…
Have you read Antonia Fraser’s great biography of MA? I recommend it.
Yes,I have,it was really interesting! I also saw the Movie version w/Kirsten Dunst as MA & though it was visually beautiful, though not as good as the book.
Thanks so much Devine!
Very interesting history lesson indeed Robyn!! Well done!! Very clever work! :))
Thanks so much Vicki;I’m really into History, especially about Royalty.
Scrumptious looking … I too have been intrigued by this part of history… so sad.Lovely image..
Thanks so much; I’m also v. interested in MA I think she got a pretty bad rap;I guess cause she represented what was wrong w/ France before the Revolution. I suggest reading a book about her written by Antonia Fraser;it’s really fascinating..!
I agree Robyn… I just might do that. I loved the Kirsten Dunst version of the story. Made you think about the fact that she was just a child with no experience and was expected to be so much more than she was, such a tragedy…I also love the old English royals.. The Tudors, King Henry the VIII… Victoria & Elizabeth… That history just intrigues me now…. don’t know why :o)
I enjoyed the movie alot & I thought Kirsten Dunst was great(thoug hshe sounded like a “Valley Girl” at times) But I think that was Sofia Coppola’s point;that she was just a teenager.Btw,weren’t the costumes Gorgeous? Yes,it sounds like we definitely have that(being in into Royalty) in common. As for modern Royalty I really like Princess Diana & was completely shocked when she died:-( William & Harry seem doing pretty well,though..
