See Dick & Jane's Crazy Quilt.. by

(mixed media on Strathmore Art Paper)

I bought these cards awhile back @ a 99 Cent store & was just held on to them until my Good RB Friend,Karen(Helgeson) mentioned how she remembered the “Dick & Jane” books from Grade School. I got another “Dynamic Duo”-Janet & Mark- but the charming illustrations & simple sentence structure(hmm, trying saying that 5 times fast!-lol) were basically the same:-) Hope this brings back memories for others on here as well..!

I have grown children of my own. They didn’t use Dick and Jane, and struggled in learning to read. This picture is a year old. I feel young at 52.

  • 52? That’s not old at all! I apologize for assuming that you were older than you actually are. In fact you look quite youthful in your pic:-) I always figure people who read “Dick & Jane” are in the 65 & older age group, but that was a wrong assumption. Btw,I live across the street from a school & for awhile I was volunteering by reading w/ 1st Graders. Alot of them didn’t speak English @ home & I felt that some of the books they read were a bit too difficult for them as a result so I believe you have a point there..!

WOW! This really takes me back to grade school! “See Dick run! Run Dick run!”….Amazing piece which captures that period of time for so many of us “youngsters” who attended grammar school in the late 50’s and early 60’s! I REALLY love this, Robyn….excellent!!

  • I’m so glad you like this Karen;especially since I created it w/you in mind, I really was stuck on how to show the different pics until I hit upon the idea of a “Crazy Quilt” design. Btw,what you wrote about creativity & how you work on something you suddenly get an idea? That describes how I work as well alot of the time:-) Thanks so Much for your positive comments about this one! (See Robyn Smile:-)

I remember Dick and Jane! An enchanting image, very creative!! ♥♥

  • They were cute;weren’t they? I read about the “adventures of” Janet & Mark(which was basically the same style;just updated a bit) but Dick & Jane are definitely Pop-Culture Icons. Thanks so much Summer!
