Trailblazing Through Woodhill Forest

Robyn Carter

Marlborough, New Zealand

Artist's Description

This is the forest path that I walk every Sunday with my running group, in preparation of the 100km Oxfam Challenge – we have to walk 100km in 24 hours. (Gulp). Today we did 4.5 hours – about 22km through trails like these in the forest.

I’ts very christmassy – with the smell of pineneedles, and extremely pretty with the red carpet underfoot. The dark coloured earth is not mud, but iron ore black sand which is everywhere on this stretch of coast.

I found the walk hard today, and am very sore all over, with one toe a complete blister, so can only hobble at present. I’m questioning my sanity!!!
