Taken at Taronga Zoo – I was very close. The background is a rock in shadow, hence dark, yet the sun was shining through his beak.
This image received Honours at the North Shore Salon of Photography, a national competition in New Zealand this year. (2007)

What can I say more Robyn, You nailed this image down to the last detail on the feathers. No wonder this image won the honors. Excellent light, wonderful comp.bird seems to have direct contact with the camera (even in profile) and the colors and contrast are perfect.

The lighting on the beak is amazing, and the background really allows for every part of the bird to stand out very well. Very cool!
