Did a bit of gooling for this one for those of us disturbed and facinated by this but don’t know what it is. Hope you don’t mind Rob….

Cthulhu is a monstrous entity who lies “dead but dreaming” in the city of R’lyeh, a place of non-Euclidean madness presently (and mercifully) sunken below the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Humanity’s most basic nightmare. he is the high priest of the Great Old Ones. Unnatural alien beings who ruled the Earth before humanity formed, worshipped as gods by some misguided people. It is said that They will return, causing worldwide insanity and mindless violence before finally displacing humanity forever.

Oh Joy – Something to look forward to!!!

Naomi, that’s right. A big nasty monster waiting for his time to reek havoc on the world and claim it as his own. Or maybe he’s already here?

Cthulhu doesn’t need to be free to exert influence…

  • Chris Jenkins

Chris Jenkins, about 1 year ago

    Very HR Giger. Great stuff.
Any hints on your creation methods? ie – ink or pencil, then scan in and digitally enhanced?

Yeah Damian – you are right – just look at the world around us…
And regarding Cthulhu, I remeber seeing this at the end of someone’s email:

“Oh bother” said Pooh, and Cthulhu rose up and ate him.

sorry about that last one – didn’t realise the formatting would do that to it. Ignore the line through.

Chris, this one was done in photoshop with the mouse and the painting tools. I sometimes use images of various things to get certain textures. For example, in this image, if you look at the creature’s elbow, he has sores on it. Well, those sores are actually sores that were my hand which I scanned and applied to the image. (I had nasty blisters from digging a garden bed in my front yard) Anyway, that’s pretty much how it’s done, the rest comes down to a wacky imagination and heaps of inspiration from wherever I can get it.
