Athens of The North
Edinburgh is sometimes referred to as the Athens of the North. To the best of my knowledge the main reason for the reference to Athens is due to the skyline of Calton Hill.
This artistic piece shows the Edinburgh Skyline of Calton Hill. Does it remind you of Athens? I wouldn’t know but I do know Edinburgh is a beautiful city.
Or at least it was until they started digging up all the roads to bring back a Tram service!!

Very nice Robin an instant fav. The Athens reference is partly to do with Carlton Hill, (the Greek monument up there is a replica of The Parthenon in Athens) but also because of The National Galleries on Princes Street

Since I have visited neither Edinburgh or Athens, I can make no comparaison, but if this dramatic sky and silhouette is any indication, Edinburgh certainly holds its own against any Grecian I have seen in books!
