The Sea Reclaims Her Own!
Saltwick Bay, Black Nab and `The Admiral Von Tromp’. Due to the weather the tide came in early and quickly, swamping the wreck and us. We had to drag Alan away :-) and not a moment too soon. 10 minutes after we got back to safety our escape route was cut off by a crashing sea…..phew!
Extract from the Whitby Lifeboat history: “Silver Medal awarded to Coxswain Robert Allen and the Bronze Medal awarded to Helmsman Richard Robinson for rescuing a survivor of the fishing vessel Admiral Van Tromp, which was wrecked after grounding on the Black Nab Rock in thick fog, an easterly wind, and a heavy breaking sea on 30 September 1976. When a survivor was seen on a rock Helmsman Robinson drove the D class lifeboat in at full speed, onto a ledge, and the man was grabbed just as a large sea broke over the rock and washed the boat back into the sea.”

It’s a dangerous business this photography game …
The shot was worth the effort, even if we had lost one or two of you …
Rob Hardy in reply to tomg’s comment, 3 months ago
Cheers Tom, as long as it wasnt me it would have been worth it (just kidding Alan/Stu) he, he!

Love it… the waves middle left detract a little, but still a brilliant shot. I didn’t see you trying to drag me away.. you just stood and laughed as the water ran round my ankles… lol.
