When clever mathematicians and physicists say things that sound really dumb… trust me, they sometimes are. And it’s often because they forgot (sometimes on purpose) that infinity is not actually a number.
Ok, actually infinity is a very useful tool for proving your theories. And here’s how you do it: Take all that equation work you’ve been doing. Yeh, that’s right, the bit that is not quite working properly. Now cut it in half. Adjust the second half so that it does arrive at the right conclusion. Now put in an extra step in the middle that includes an operation on infinity. Operations on infinity are awesome because 0 can equal 1, etc, and nobody will notice the difference. And voila! job done.
