FLUIDISM The Art Of Dynamic Fluid Photography is a large, 12-month wall calendar that measures 11″ × 17″ (hanging). Each month unfolds as a single page of high-quality, satin cardstock, expertly printed with a spectacular, full-color illustration. All pages are bound together by a sturdy spiral wire spine. The spiral wire spine is located at the top of the calendar to keep individual pages hanging droop-free for the entire year. An additional hanger bar (placed within the spiral wire spine) forms the perfect loop for suspending this calendar from a single, small nail or hook.
Beautiful fluid patterns arise spontaneously in real liquid mixtures of water, mineral oil, art acrylics, oil paints, glycerin, and egg whites. These patterns are small (3cm to 5cm), unpredictable and short-lived. They cannot be preserved by traditional painting methods that depend on the physics of drying. Instead, these most ephemeral of painted designs defy the physics of drying. Here drying is meaningless. Capturing the compositions in their original fluid media is inconceivable, because each painting is an ongoing action, NOT a stationary artifact. The only possible artifacts, therefore, are photographs, even though original paintings once existed.
This is the enchanting appeal of the art style I call “fluidism”, which I discovered by accident around the year, 2000. Over subsequent years, I have refined it through trial and error, and much repetition.
This wall calendar collects together images of some of my best discoveries. Dramatic bubbles, cascading colors, striking textures, and curious combinations of shapes reveal Nature’s most primitive creative powers. These images represent my collaboration with the universe, in a private journey that has led me to view all reality as one supreme, infinite, eternal ocean.
Part planning and part improvisation, fluidism is a combination of action painting, close-up film photography, film scanning, and digital editing. This mixed-media process presents Nature’s most primal creative powers, while putting life in the most profound perspective.
