Papergirl & Poetic Abstractions

July 24th (tonight) is the Papergirl Vancouver 2012 Opening Party! . . . a world wide project.
It is finally here! The opening of the 2012 Papergirl Vancouver exhibition! With 136 artists and a total of 738 pieces of art!

What is Papergirl?

Papergirl: A Redefinition of Street Art Combining Art, Philanthropy & Bikes

Whether you remember it from your childhood or have simply seen it in the movies, there is a certain charm about the American paperboy delivering the daily news by bicycle. Vancouver, is about to experience that nostalgic charm once again-Papergirls is back!

The idea behind the Papergirls project is to bring art and the public together in an exciting and innovative way by taking it out of the galleries and into the streets. In the style of the American paperboy, artwork that has been donated by local and global artist will be distributed by volunteers on bicycles into the hands of random everyday people.

This amazing global art movement began five years ago in Berlin and has since grown worldwide to locations that include Glasgow, Istanbul, Moldova, Romania, New York, San Francisco, Portland and Kelowna. Papergirls made its Vancouver debut in 2011 and excited to be a part of it to our beautiful city, Vancouver for a second year!

Papergirl is an inclusive, non-commercial art project that welcomes artists of all ages and abilities to participate by donating their work to Papergirls. Artwork received by July 18th, 2012 will become part of a week-long exhibition to be held at the Roundhouse Community Arts Centre July 22nd-27th, 2012. On the final day of the exhibition, the artwork will be taken down and bundle into rolls, to be distributed by a team of volunteer cyclists, to completely unsuspecting strangers! The generosity of the donor artists and the hard work and dedication of the volunteers makes the Art of Giving Art possible.

I only have one piece in the project, others have much more than that. I made my own poster for tonight for my people . . . hope to see some of you there.

My second show, is coming up on September 06-2012. This one has been in the works for almost 2 years now. September 6 – October 6 / November 10

Opening reception: Thursday, September 6 at 7:00pm.
In conjunction with Place des Arts’ Adult Open House: Ignite . . . an affair with art!

Poetic Abstractions: 7 Visions, an abstract photography exhibition by Artists in Our Midst Alumni, will be displayed in the Atrium Gallery. In these works, the viewer can move through a series of images that present a broad range of abstraction and explore the dynamics of abstraction through the photographic medium.

I have 6 pieces in this exhibition, in the midst of preparing them for show.

Thanks to the curators, Phyllis & Edward for this one.
