Paul Ricoeur wrote a book with this title. In it he explores the nature of self and selfhood …. but as he’s French and a philosopher it is never going to be described as light reading! In it he makes the point that people change over time, none of us is identical to the person we were ten years ago, but we are still recognisable to others as being the same person. So we change but stay the same. The two collections of stones in this image mark the summit of High Seat in the Lake District. They are the same in the sense that they are stones put there by people to mark a particular place as different from places close by. But they are different because they were put there for different reasons, one is formal the other informal.
