This work is my interpretation of Old San Pedro about 1850 when the harbor was packed with sailing vessels from all over the world. Some had made their way around Cape Horn and were headed for San Francisco and Alaska to supply the gold fields.
This watercolor was painted on 140lb Arches rag paper, using grumbacher premium watercolor paints and Russian Sable brushes. I used a wet on wet technique. I research old historical records to get the feel of how the harbor looked in the day.
