USS Kermit Roosevelt by Rob Beilby

Available to buy on…

Watercolor: This painting depicts the USS Kermit Roosevelt riding a typhoon in the South China Sea on it’s way to rescue the 1st Marine Div and Army 7th Infantry trapped at the Chosin resevoir, Korea in sub zero temperatures. This was February 27th 1950. My father in Law Jim Thompson was serving on this ship at the time, so I painted this for him to auction at his reunion.

FEATURED: In the Best of Anything and Everyything

Painted on 140lb Aquarelle Rag paper, Grumbacher w/c paints, wet on wet technique.

warships, korea, chosin, watercolor

I am at heart a sailor, a sailor who loves to paint the sea, its moods and shifting colors. Also, there is a keen interest in the history of ships and the sailors that have travelled far distances or perished in a dramatic moment of action, in a sea in turmoil. This influence is evident in dramatic watercolors such as “The Gypsy
Moth IV” fully caught in the teeth of a gale off Cape Horn or “Red Flag Day” at the San Clemente Pier.
