911 Tribute - 10th Anniversary

Here’s Looking At You – A Tribute to 9/11
by Rob Beilby
A Manhattan to Manhattan…
This watercolor was done for my wife, a United Airlines Flight Attendant, to respectfully commemorate September 11, 2001. It is meant as a loving toast to the fallen. The prospective is from an interior window table at the famous “Windows on The World” restaurant, a top the twin towers. We thought the work important enough to register it with the Library of Congress.
Although the memories remain as vivid as if the event were yesterday, it has been almost 10 years and the anniversary is fast approaching. It might be a nice study to add personal reflections and perhaps even poems of contemplation about our feelings and how our lives have been changed, if indeed, you feel they have been, by that day.
With your permission, my idea would be to develop a compendium of thoughts, poems and images.

Well, I remember that day. I felt as if America was under attack! and she was! A co-worker lost a dear friend, she was the one who left the heart wrenching message on her answering machine! telling her family good by.
I was home with my husband, but I had to get in touch with my family and friends. Devasted and shocked to put it mildly.
I waited on a customer the day before that was headed for New York and the Twin Towers, to this day I do not know what happened to him.
It was one of those events that you will always remember where you were.
Healing has happened in this country, and in all our lives.
With God’s help we will continue to rebuild our strength, and security. Take care all, Linda
How surreal it feels as the horror unfolds
like a scene from a film which could never be shown
how could it be, why we all ask
at the start of the day when the world did collapse.
glued to the tv too scared to move
for fear that we may miss some positive news
we see the same pictures that just cant be real
but we know that they are and we know how we feel.
