This is a self portrait painting, produced with oils on a stretched canvas. It has a very expressive personal quality as well as a universal connotation. I had layered through various sittings, the main portrait piece and the lettering style. The original has a very nice tonal quality and a strong contrast of complimentary color. I also wanted the imposed lettering placement to coincide spatially with the self portrait features, so a unified and enhanced mood is achieved. The dimensions of the canvas are 30in. X 24in. It was initiated about three years ago and recently finished up in 2008.
Canto III, 67-69: “The insects streaked their faces with their blood, which, mingled with their tears, fell at their feet, where it was gathered up by sickening worms.”
