Woman in Green Chair (Oils)-

This is a painting in oils that is reworked from an actual figure study. The line and form is modified to capture a different feeling and to express a more provocative image. Some areas are treated in flat shapes and some areas are shaded to created a variety of depth. I enjoy the smoother textures and reflective surfaces of the paint which contrast some of the more heavily textured shapes. Overall, it has a curious quality to it which may resemble works of Braque and Picasso, but ultimately was created to find a greater and more interesting spatial relationship of the womanly figure. My favorite quality of the piece is that the woman’s head is placed upside-down and her arm wraps around and under it, drawing more emphasis to this area.

beautiful work…i like the deconstruction of the form

  • Robert Dye replied

Thank you very much for your comment, AlteredIllus… I enjoy the torso a lot in this work, (as well as other areas) for it has a lot of flattened, simplified shapes as well as shaded, enlarged perspectives of the form. It is full of contrasting principles that I wanted to incorporate together. Glad you enjoy it. Thanks a million, take good care, and please keep in touch.

It makes me think about the confusions and seperations between sexuality and gender. I like it.

That is an interesting comment. I’m glad to have made you think about the work. I find the perspectives and shapes of the female to be separated, to convey her search to be physically and emotionally beautiful. It is a complex painting, Thanks for commenting. Keep in touch and take good care-
