This is an expressive self-portrait painting, produced with oils on a hand-stretched canvas. It was originated from a small pen and ink sketch. There are a variety of techniques utilized in certain areas of the work, which give the original painting a lot of textural and reflective properties. The concept can be viewed as a literal and allegorical statement, with the figure being pulled apart physically and emotionally. This work expresses the acceptance of the untamable and unchangeable forces of nature, accepting ones fate, and personal potential. Though it may be frustrating and difficult to deal with, only from being true and genuine can one understand their core essence, and in turn, express and share the true self with the world. The original dimensions of the canvas are 24in. X 20in. The work was completed in 2008.
