The Enigma of the Woman (Acrylics)-
This work was created with acrylics and some inks on a stretched canvas. The arrangement of the figures is very cubistic and abstract, but the initial drawings were derived from life study, and then comprised all together. The figures represent three women who I had known at different time periods of my life, and there pose and inter-related visual expressions convey different personal and emotional concepts. The use of symbiotic lines and implied forms of the overlapping figures creates and overall very pleasing aesthetic affect. I used some acrylic sand gel mediums in certain areas for added textural affect, and some other areas were selectively accented with red ink and india ink. I really enjoyed the abstract nature of the simplified and reduced shapes, as well as the bright coloration, layers of the paints, and repetitive line qualities of the piece. The original dimensions of the canvas are 36in. X 24in. This work was started about five years ago, with the drawing, before it developed into the current painted concept. It was recently completed in 2008.
