Aurora and Fireball by Frank Olsen

Canvas Prints

Available to buy on…

This image is from the Vesteralen islands, north of Norway. December 27 th 2010.
A great fireball is striking across the sky.
And in the background the Aurora Borealis is dancing over the mountains.
To get a fireball of this magnitude in a picture with the Auroras is a once in a lifetime experience.
The strait is app 4 miles across, an the light from the fireball lighten up wide around.
Note this:
The STARS are enhanced in Photoshop. The stars are actually there, but fainter in the original image.
Canon EOS 7D, Tokina 11-16 f/2.8
Tripod, remote shutter release
13 seconds exposure
This image was originally uploaded in another version.
After this I’ve got newer and better editing tools. So I’ve sharpened, adjusted color balance and noise reduction.
This was the original image:

  • Thanks Michael!
A stroke of luck. I’ve got a few before, but the magnitude of this was just fantastic.
