It’s not often I get the chance to photograph both the sunset/sunrise and the Northern Lights at the same time.
Picture taken on April 6th 2011 at Hillesøy island just outside Tromsø, Norway. In the distance the island of Haja, with the shark fin shape.
The winter is slowly letting go by april, and spring is approaching. But still there’s plenty of snow in the mountains.
Picture was taken at 10:30 in the evening. At this latitude the sun is shining all 24 hours of the day during the summertime, (midnight sun). This time of year is rapidly coming, and this is why we still can see the remains of the sunset.
Canon EOS 7D, with Tokina 11-16 mm /f2.8.
10 seconds exposure and ISO 800. f/2.8 @ 13mm

It never ceases to amaze me when I see the Aurora Borealis….What a stunning shot. I love that bit that is beaming down as if to pick someone up for transport. Very cool!

  • It’s quite amazing to witness such a sight. Even for me who has seen this phenomena all my life.. I live by the coast in the arctic parts of Norway. Because of this there’smuch “weather”. Wind, clouds, rain and snow. So clear sky is not for everyday, as for the past 3 weeks we hardly seen the sky. Fortunately there’s been low aurora activity….
